Cause an Effect

for alto saxophone, marimba and shaker

Cause an Effect begins with the marimbist performing a simple 6/8 pulse in the shaker while laying down a bass line for the saxophonist. This idea develops and then devolves, leaving room for the saxophonist to take over. Eventually the marimbist gets to take their turn with the melody as the saxophonist accompanies with one hand on the saxophone and one hand on the marimba. The piece concludes with the opening theme and a few twists.
